wiz Morten Varano has got it covered. As half of the Puddu Varano techno/soul
duo he's responsible for an inspired and superior album that saw the
light of day recently. Travelling in its immediate wake is this co-collaboration,
this time with singer Lady Z, a soul/R&B singer several rungs above
the general mill of singalikes. They are both exceptional talents in
fact and this album grows on you like a rash. After a while every track
of this acidy jazz sensibility seeps into your subconscious. "Wasn't
this is a hit?" you think
"At least, it ought to be". Slinky, sexy, groove-driven music, with genuine soul at its core, especially the vocals of Lady Z which are laced with exotic sounds and beats by Varano. Yet one of the most haunting tracks is an acoustic guitar/vocal outing with a quasi samba beat. Live with this a while and you'll be hooked. 8.5 of 10.
