The
first half of Slow Train, Lady Z, is the electronically alter ego of
London based soul jazz singer Z Star. On the dance music scene, Lady
Z has collaborated with Los Chicharrons, Puddu Varano, Heal, Goudi and
Gerald Elms (Defected) with current releases on Mr. Bongo, Irma, Voodoo,
Murena, and Key recordings. Her partner Morten Varano has worked with
Puddu Varano, and Los Chicharrons, earning him respect from Richerd
Dorfmeister through to Yousef, and Roger Sanchez. On the A-side here,
you get 'In The Black Of Night' which is classy, confident and uncompromising.
Deep old school funk 'n jazzy breaks with unforgettable vocal melodies
and a catchy piano hook. whilst on the flip 'Trail Of Dawn' has a soca
feel, world music undertones, infectious strings with a big breakdown
ending with middle eastern percussion. Extremely fresh - and a 'dub'
thrown in as well!.
