better is when that pile of vinyl contains something of the originality
and abject greatness of Copenhagen Dancefloor Classics. Okay, so the
title’s something of a misnomer for us Brits (unfortunately our
dancefloors don’t rock to this kind of stuff), but what is contained
within the trendy packaging is a combination of jazz, salsa and afrobeats
mixed up with the sense of humour of easy listening, and programmed
in a way that makes the album a perfect aid to summer chillout sessions.
Occasionally it may introduce that eighties synth bass sound that brings
back bad memories of mullets and perms, but for the mostpart it sticks
to the pre-eighties raw but smooth jazz funk that apparently rocked
the carnivals of Denmark ‘back in the day’. There’s
even a few household names in the credits… Mancini for one. An
essential conga party from the label responsible for some of the finest
world music/house fusion records in recent history…
